Connected TV has spent the last decade growing up.

First came scale. Then targeting. Then programmatic buying, better measurement and the migration of premium content - including major live sports from linear television into streaming.

Going into 2027, the conversation around CTV advertising is changing again.

The question is no longer whether advertisers should invest in Connected TV. It is increasingly what they should expect CTV to deliver once they do.

That distinction matters.

IAB's latest 2026 outlook projected CTV ad spend growth of 15.6% year over year, while Nielsen reported that streaming represented a record 46.6% of ad-supported television viewing during Q1 2026. CTV is no longer an emerging channel waiting for its moment. The moment happened.

So what comes next?

Here are seven CTV predictions we believe will define 2027.

CTV performance will matter more than CTV delivery

For years, Connected TV reporting leaned heavily on media metrics: impressions, reach, frequency, completion rate and CPM.

They still matter. But increasingly they answer only one question:

Did the campaign run correctly?

Advertisers are asking a harder one:

Did it work?

IAB reports that buyers are increasingly focused on customer acquisition and measurable business results, while iSpot found more than 45% of marketers now view business outcomes as the most important consideration when buying media.

In 2027, expect CTV performance conversations to move further toward incremental sales, store visits, consideration, site activity, applications, bookings and return on ad spend.

CTV will still be brilliant at building brands.

It will simply be expected to prove what happened next.

CTV creative will become part of the media strategy

Media teams have become extraordinarily sophisticated at deciding who receives an impression.

The message inside that impression has not always kept up.

That disconnect becomes harder to defend as audience targeting grows more precise.

income households, category shoppers and lapsed buyers, why should all of them automatically receive exactly the same CTV creative?

In 2027, creative planning and media planning will increasingly happen together.

Not because every household requires a completely different commercial, but because the data informing the buy can also inform what the ad should say.

Dynamic Creative Optimization will mean more than swapping a headline

Dynamic Creative Optimization (DCO) is likely to become an even bigger CTV topic in 2027.

But its definition is also expanding.

CTV DCO can include audience-specific messaging, localized information, product recommendations, weather, time, contextual signals, calls to action, sequential storytelling and creative optimization based on campaign performance.

Amazon's introduction of Dynamic TV Creative for Prime Video in 2026 is a useful signal of where the broader market is heading: first-party audience and commerce signals increasingly influencing not only who receives an ad, but what that person sees inside it.

The next phase of dynamic creative will therefore be less about proving that an element can change.

It will be about understanding why it should.

Context will make a serious comeback

Audience targeting understandably dominated much of the last decade.

But television has always had another hugely valuable signal: what somebody is watching and the mindset it creates.

That opportunity is returning.

Nielsen's Gracenote found that 86% of surveyed media planners would move more

linear television budget into CTV if better show-level targeting and reporting were available. Eighty percent of traders said actionable content signals could convince them to move budget from audience-targeted into contextually targeted CTV.

Expect 2027 campaigns to combine audience and contextual intelligence rather than treating the two as competing strategies:

  • Who is watching?

  • What are they watching?

  • Where are they?

  • What matters right now?

The creative opportunity lives where those signals meet.

CTV advertising will become more creatively agile

Traditional television creative was built for permanence.

CTV creative increasingly needs to be built for movement.

Retail offers change. Weather changes. Prices change. Flights change. Inventory changes. Sports schedules change. Competitors change. Campaign performance changes.

The old idea of producing one or two finished commercials and leaving them untouched for twelve weeks increasingly clashes with the capabilities of modern CTV advertising.

Creative agility therefore becomes valuable even when sophisticated personalization is unnecessary.

Sometimes the smartest dynamic creative strategy is simply being able to change the message quickly.

New CTV ad formats will move from novelty to normality

Pause ads, overlays, native ad extensions and other non-traditional CTV formats have spent several years moving through the experimentation phase.

Infrastructure is beginning to catch up.

In 2026, IAB Tech Lab finalized signaling guidance designed to help formats including

pause and menu ads scale across the CTV ecosystem, while one industry survey found 80% of agencies and DSPs expected their pause-ad investment to increase over the following year.

That doesn't mean the humble 15 or 30 second commercial disappears.

Far from it.

Instead, brands gain more ways to complement it.

The opportunity in 2027 will be choosing a format because it solves a problem - not because it happens to be shiny and new.

Creative will increasingly be accountable for performance

This may ultimately be the most important shift.

Once CTV campaigns are judged against measurable outcomes, everything capable of influencing those outcomes becomes open to optimization.

Including creative.

Origin has already seen what this can look like.

For one major holiday retailer, more than 20,000 dynamically produced, localized Slingshot ad extensions accompanied the client's existing CTV creative. Independent measurement by InMarket ultimately reported up to $8.27 in incremental ROAS, a 13.9% incremental sales lift and $9.5 million in incremental sales.

For Travel Alaska, tailoring the CTV experience around rotating destination messaging helped produce a 261% lift in viewer attention, alongside measurable lifts in consideration and intent.

Different objectives. Different creative strategies.

That is precisely the point.

CTV in 2027: the medium starts acting its age

Connected TV has inherited television's screen, storytelling power and emotional impact.

It has also inherited digital advertising's data, targeting, optimization and measurement capabilities.

In 2027, those two worlds should become noticeably harder to separate.

The winners will not necessarily be the advertisers with the most data, the most targeting segments or even the largest CTV budgets.

They will be the ones connecting those capabilities together.

Because reaching the right household is enormously valuable.

Knowing what to say once you get there may prove even more so.
