Are we looking at the 'Streaming Wars' from the wrong end?



My favourite part about a recent article from the WSJ is that we are in "the streaming-era version of the pay-TV carriage disputes." I have no idea which side over-played their hand in this instance, but having spent the last 5 years watching fights like this escalate, I think both sides still have a lot to learn.

Streaming services need to better understand that:

1) Content production isn't free.

2) Without content they are nothing.

3) They exist surrounded by very healthy competition.


Legacy content companies need to better understand that after 50 years of being slaves to cable, consumers have now have options - and if they want something, they'll stamp their feet hard enough until they get it. And if they can't get it, they'll move on...
